Ventilation and damp: the two rental standards new homes miss
How exhausts and wet area sealing affect a rental's compliance.
In short: Moist air with nowhere to go becomes a mould problem, and mould is its own standard.
The ventilation standard
Wet areas must be ventilated, which in practice means exhausts that actually discharge outside.
The mould and damp standard
A rental must be free of mould and damp caused by the building structure.
Finding the cause
Moisture readings show where damp sits and point to the likely source.
Fixing it
Reconnect ducts, reseal wet areas and repair whatever is letting water in.
