When the slab sticks out past the frame: a Mambourin frame stage finding
Why a slab projecting over 20mm beyond the frame matters for the brick cavity.
In short: Our most serious recent Mambourin frame finding was a slab edge too far out from the wall frame, with honeycombing along it.
What we measured
At a Mambourin frame inspection the slab extended more than 20mm past the timber frame in several places.
Why the cavity matters
Brick veneer relies on a gap between bricks and frame for drainage and ventilation. Extra slab shrinks that gap below the minimum.
The usual fix
Trimming the slab edge back before bricklaying, done with care for the reinforcement cover.
Honeycombing at the same edge
Voids along the slab edge were recorded on the same job. Depending on depth they can affect durability and need repair.
Why frame stage
Once bricks are laid, the slab edge is hidden and none of this can be measured.
