Exhaust and rangehood ducts that stop in the roof
A common shortcut in young homes and why it matters.
In short: Fans and rangehoods venting into the roof space push moist, greasy air where it does damage.
What we find
Bathroom fans and rangehood ducts ending inside the roof space rather than at a cowl or outside.
Why it matters
Moist air condenses on cold roof framing and insulation, which can lead to mould and decay.
Seen at handover and resale
We record it at Mambourin handovers and at resale inspections elsewhere in the west.
The fix
Connect the duct to a cowl or outlet so the air leaves the building.
